I don’t know who needs to hear this but don’t scratch your scalp because you’re causing unnecessary shedding.

But if you must do it, scratch only on wash days while doing a hot oil treatment.
I purposely experimented this past week by scratching my scalp with the comb with the 4 metal ends.

(Not recommended but I couldn’t help myself)
The dandruff came out IN CHUNKS but I don’t have straight hair so I can’t comb or brush my hair out without damaging it. Even finger detangling it out will break your hair, especially if it’s dry!
So the reason why I said only on wash days because if you don’t wash out the scratched out flakes ASAP. They will tangle your curls and your hair will get matted wherever the flakes fall.
That might be your roots, mid shaft or your ends.
Of course, do whatever works for you but people have not put two and two together and realize that scratching your scalp irritates your hair follicles that causes unnecessary hair fallout. IJS
