Question, my fic aficionados. There have recently been a lot of people who have extra time due to quarantine and are interested in trying their hand at fic writing for the first time. Knowing that I beta, I've had a fair amount of requests for me to look over a new fic... (contd)
But I'll be perfectly honest: if you are a sweet newborn baby writer, you don't want me as a beta. I am arguably one of the toughest in this entire fandom (it's not unusual for me to leave ~80 corrections/suggestions/comments on a 7-10 page oneshot... No, but literally)
And the very last thing I want to do is unintentionally discourage a newbie or make them think they're doing anything wrong, when the truth is I am just a crazy hardass. For that reason alone I almost NEVER beta for newbies, and it has nothing to do with my opinion of you!
THAT SAID, I know there are a lot of incredible, talented, nurturing people in this fandom who would love to offer you gentle guidance (with grammar/spelling, pacing, characterization, etc.) in your first venture into the scary world of sharing your words with others!
So this is actually a request thread: if you are willing to act as a beta-reader (or editor, in layman's terms) to new people who are just getting started in this fandom, would you sound off in the comments here, so I can reference people back to this thread when I get requests?
