This made me very emotional. My piece with @GuyOron was 3rd on @thenation yesterday
I fight hard against the myth of objectivity and establish myself as a âjournalistâ and not just an âactivistâ. I believe you can be both and believe our communities need them more than ever.

After my piece came out in The Atlantic, the city pushed hard to take away my credibility as a âjournalistâ-
âThe Atlantic learned that author did not attend the removal of Ravenna Woods homeless encampments as a journalist, but instead a protestorâ

Itâs hard to get bylines like this. Iâve received contracts to write for publications that would immediately call me if I said anything negative about the democratic establishment or corporate power. All while giving out contracts to far-rightwing writers https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2018/07/05/28734309/the-city-of-seattle-appears-to-dislike-the-atlantic-story-on-our-citys-homeless-crisis-and-anti-homeless-app
I appreciate accountable journalism that puts people first. Iâm not perfect, but I fact check everything I write 10x more than I need to. I check my sources and quote check everything. Because I know my work will always be checked 10x more because of what I write and who I am.
I probably shouldnât have tweeted this thread but itâs ok. Iâm gonna keep trying my best to give underrepresented communities a voice and platform.
