For a few years now, I& #39;ve felt tangential to online communities, in my participation & emotional investment. This has felt pretty natural honestly. There are folks with perspectives on issues I should be listening to, because my privilege blinds me
The communities & brands I had the strongest parasocial relationships had Adam as a central figure. I tunes in to every episode of a lot of the shows, paid subscriptions to access extra content.
That parasocial connection, that investment makes me want to accept contrition at face value & on good faith, stay a fan.
But I see what fans are capable of forgiving & even defending.

I see the harm fans can do to victims & folks affected by the actions of those with social capital.
So I& #39;m listening to the voices speaking out. To the folks directly affected, & to my expectations of my own behaviour.

I& #39;m cancelling subscriptions & distancing myself from those communities. Not because I think it will have impact but for myself.
I didn& #39;t recognize it at the time, but on reflection I& #39;ve experiences something similar to the scene in question, where an adult took advantage of me as a young teen. I& #39;ve felt the pressure to not say no, & had a situation thrust on my I didn& #39;t have the context for.
