there is a very intense (and non-vegan) scene in itaewon class about a father, a terrible oligarch, making his son, his successor, kill a chicken. as terrible as it is, this scene outlines exactly how society views and treats animals. +
the son is opposed to it at first, he is very emotional, he cant stand the smell of the chicken barn, he cant kill the chicken. but because of his fathers manipulations he finally does it, and the scene ends with the son screaming and the father laughing crazily. +
the scene demonstrates how most plp arent aware of the fact that it is an animal they are eating when consuming meat - a sentient being that once lived. if confronted with reality, they wouldnt be able to kill said animal themselves. because its against our natural empathy. +
the scene also shows how killing non-human animals and treating them as lesser than humans is the direct gateway to killing people and treating them as lesser than other people. animal oppression is the foundation of all oppression in society. +
furthermore the scene displays how people can be broken and manipulated to go against their natural empathy and morals because of being pressured, manipulated or broken. humans arent born monsters, they turn each other into them. and its always animals who suffer.
