Today's briefing, which I'm just now watching, is genuinely disturbing. Like, slide fully into cult-autocracy disturbing. I've never heard so many government programs described as "President Trump's program" or "At his direction" or "Because of his leadership."
This isn't tone policing. It's not pedantry. This is government, in a crisis, deifying a single man. Like, "Just as President Trump is working to make sure COVID-19 healthcare is paid for, so is President Trump working to research new treatments."
That is not healthy in a democracy. It's dangerous. And I hope someone starts to ask them why he's being credited as though he is personally the entire government apparatus.
He's not doing any of those things. He's not paying for research. You are. I am. He's not covering our medical bills.
The PRESIDENT DOESN'T HAVE GUIDELINES.
The President did not build anyone a hospital. He didn't pay for one. He didn't equip one. He didn't design one. He couldn't find where one was built on a map if someone showed him the neighborhood.
