The Globe and Mail just wrote an evening headline that is typical of its back-of-the-hand reporting. The headline, and much of the story, dealt with how behind the pandemic our government has moved. The REAL truth is that the government moved expeditiously.
The minute it began to realize what was happening it took steps to alleviate the spread of the pandemic and NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE recognised the depth of the peril we were in. We can thank our Prime Minister and our Deputy Prime Minister that they did before anyone else.
I am sick of mealy-mouthed journalists, talking heads, would-be leaders who are only political hacks, and other nay-sayers who are constantly carping about the actions our government is taking.
And I daily give thanks that Canadians, although not enough of us, had the sense to elect a moderate government that actually listens to the people it governs.
Just imagine the mess we would have been in had we elected Scheer or Singh.
Neither of them have the sense to come in out of the rain, and they are backed by a cabal of eminence grises whose only motivation is greed and the power to make it work for THEM. So a pox on all these lack-luster visionaries who criticize the better crew.
Their only desire is to bring the government into their hands. Canadians had better pray that this NEVER happens. The Great Pandemic is not only teaching a lot about ourselves. It's revealing real cracks in our health system, and in the management of our economy.
It's especially revealing of the quality of those who lead us. Only a couple have risen to the occasion. These include our current Prime Minister, most of his cabinet ministers, and very surprisingly Doug Ford who ceased his bluster and went to bat for Ontarians.
It's too soon yet to see whether or not the change in his attitude is permanent, but I have high hopes that it will reverse his often wrong-headed attitudes about our health care and that he will learn a few lessons from Liberal minds in the province.
The Great Pandemic is a Great Leveller. It change our society for the better, if we let it. Yes, things are tough and maybe going to get tougher. But we can make a better society out of the ruins of the old.
Government; Justice; Health Care; Education; The Environment. Remember those words. Those are the areas in which we need to see great change. We'll need a government that can keep those needs in the front of its mind.
