took me an hour to gather my thoughts but to start off with general thoughts? i think the game is great! not the best one in the series but it definitely has a lot of good moments. but also a lot of bad moments, mainly gameplay wise to me at least. i’ll go more in depth https://twitter.com/cinatiropa/status/1246192796219957249
warning for re3 spoilers for like this entire thread btw. sorry. first with characters; i really like how capcom is slowly but surely making their charas more human? tbh in re2make leon and claire were pretty stale, with claire only being more tolerable bc of her relationship
w/ sherry. re3make is a much better improvement on these things bc carlos is no longer the flirty Person Of Color. he genuinely wants to help people, and cares about his team And jill. jill and carlos’s dynamic is actually way more fun and tolerable than it was originally.
and jill in general in this game... shes just so perfect!!! i think this is the best version of her that we’ve ever seen and i’m so glad that capcom gave her the writing she deserves, especially since shes Basically the poster girl of the series.
dialogue wise—Way Less Awkward And Corny than re2make’s. ok yes the insults were a little much (like shitbird? dickface?) but in general the interactions/small things characters would say to themselves made it bearable. and it also adds a lot more their personality.
its good. compared to re2make where i had to pause the game bc of the “who is this”/“this is sherry”/“ok” part, re3make really improved on it.
im trying not to make this too long + i know nobody really gives a fire fuck anyway but i simply must discuss. ANYWAYS graphics are beautiful. atmosphere is really good (esp. during the hospital level which i see a lot of people praising) and it’s just. fun!
to me it’s way more fun than re2make, mainly bc it’s way less claustrophobic and more colorful. you could “explore” the rpd in re2make but it was so linear, whereas re3make gives you opportunities to and shortcuts and just admire the scenery.
also theres a lot less backtracking than re2make thankfully (unless ur like me and wanted guns or were desperate for items)
but uh. onto the bad things here. this is may be a little controversial. one of the things i saw a lot was that the game was way too short + had way too little extra content and benefits to be costing 60 dollars, which i now agree on.
i very much enjoyed it but also, w/ re being my hyperfixation of 13 yrs there is a Lot i’m willing to forgive/excuse/look over while playing the game until i’m finally done w/ it. and now that i am done with it. its uh. it’s definitely not perfect.
i get that since this is simultaneously a prequel + sequel to re2make, it’s supposed to show the beginnings of the infection. that means more zombies that are mostly freshly turned, so they’re a lot faster and bound to be found in hordes, but they dont always Need to be in hordes
i think re2make had a somewhat good amount of zombies because it wasn’t too overwhelming, whereas re3make tries to shove them wherever you go and it gets.. annoying. spoilers next tweet btw
re3 spoilers / during the 3rd nemmy boss fight (which is already Terrible) he’s basically, Literally running in circles, and he hides behind these generators that you have to shoot to get him out. you get callouts as to which tank he’s hiding behind, but it’s never repeated and-
it’s insanely easy to ignore or mishear, and for me i was so focused on trying to track him that i didn’t notice that there were now four zombies in the circle with me, all of them decreasing my health and kind of forcing me to waste precious ammo to move them out of the way.
i’ll admit this could be solved if i wasnt so adamant on headshots and instead focused on the limbs, but despite them being less bullet spongey it still took up too much time for me to really think abt when i’m trying to focus on a boss fight. the boss fights in general just Suck
which sadly makes me even more glad that they cut the gravedigger out bc it undoubtedly would’ve been ass too. not even re2make’s boss fights were this bad despite william being quite annoying! it’s definitely a downgrade, and i think nemesis deserved better, which made me more-
understanding of people who were upset by his appearances being totally scripted in the remake instead of it being a balance of scripted and random like it was in the og. in my 7 hours of playing he only really pops up within the first 2 hours and give you that feeling of panic-
-and terror, only for it to die down and turn into annoyance his later appearances. his name is literally the Pursuer. Why Isn’t He Pursuing. i get they didn’t want another mr. x situation, but honestly? if they are going to admit that re2make and re3make were developed at the-
-exact some time, then they should’ve flipped it around—make mr. x solely scripted, and make nemesis follow you as much as he can like he used to. given what the game is like it’d understandably be a bit unfair to have him around the entire game, but-
but it’s not like absolutely nothing could be done. capcom made the mistake of building up so much hype and terror around mr. x that it made nemesis look kinda... eh. combat wise he’s a lot more terrifying but. you honestly forget that he’s out there which makes you less careful-
-and eager to leave places, which is both a good thing (to me bc i like to explore) & a bad thing. and when he Does come back it’s just like “oh yeah hes back again, wish he’d quit”. nemesis used to be way more popular than mr. x but now it’s opposite w/ what they’ve done to him.
but nemesis aside. the enemies were annoying, pale heads especially. yes, pale heads, hunter betas, hunter gammas, and drain deimos look amazing! but damn! theyre so annoying! like at one point i didn’t wanna backtrack not bc i was scared but bc i didn’t wanna deal with them!
sure i’ve got enough ammo to take it down but when you have other shit to worry about (like hunters) you wanna be smart and conserve it! but again this is mainly My fault for not just. taking their limbs off. but i digress!
i think those little eye-head zombies were one of the worst bc even though there aren’t many of them (not on normal at least) they’re just so.. pointless! and annoying! and pointless! damn!
i found myself saying that smth was annoying a /lot/ of times in this game and even tho i did get a lot of fun out of it. the sewer was surprisingly so relaxing considering what’s in there + how ASS the sewers are in re2make. god. so fun but so annoying. pale heads fucking SUCK
also little nitpicks: i save like a madman but like. there are save rooms every 5 steps. you don’t need that many save rooms. re2make didn’t even have that many. also the assault rifle sucked so much balls. so much... did i mention the later half of the hospital sucked already
ending wise it probably had more of a disappointing impact on me bc i was running off of adrenaline and excitement the whole time and you’d think the near end of the game would give you something that proved that it was worthy of that. but it didn’t. just annoying boss fights.
pretty environment, shitty boss fights! and the pale head room wouldve been well off not existing!!! in fact i think it wouldve been better if pale heads werent in the game at all!!! fuck pale heads!!!!!!!! also no barry in the game so its like but i can let that slide.
no post-game content like epilogues of jill+chris + the re2 cast, no extra mercenaries mode (buuuut considering how the enemies function it wouldnt be easy to pull off, but also, yes it could be if they had the time to make the atrocity that is resistance), nothing! except for-
the shop that basically exists to give u the Gorgeous stars skin for jill + shit that makes it even easier to do S-runs. after finishing it you’re just like damn. THATS IT? and that’s essentially how i felt.
the game was going so great up until the near end of the hospital and suddenly capcom didnt know how to act. that defense mission wasnt necessary capcom!!!! throwing two hunters at you while there is a literal swarm of zombies coming your way was a choice you didnt have to make!!
tldr: i liked the game. i give it a nice 7.5/10, bc it starts off as a crisp 8-but could possibly bump to a 9 out of 10 and then the 2nd nemesis boss fight happens after the train accident and it just. kinda goes downhill from there.
should you play it? yes, esp if you’re into horror games more for the fun of it than actual story bc re has never been good at story-based games. despite my gripes it hasn’t discouraged its replayability value-
-whereas i only havent finished my leon run on re2make bc the sewers are genuinely that fucking miserable. god i hate the sewers that’s always the one thing that stops me from playing it again. but i digress. if you’re interested in the series but not so much the shitty graphics-
-of the og versions, then re2make and re3make are, in my opinion, the best games to start off with if you’re discouraged by the ancient controls of re1make. bc yes the series started in a mansion but you know what gets referenced he most? the raccoon city incident. so. yeah.
good game. could be better. would like a cvx remake. end thread. thank you for coming
