the nhl doing less than the bare minimum regarding addressing race issues in hockey is,,, dare i say it,,,, maybe one major reason why it’s not as popular as the other major leagues

people that aren’t white cishet men are never going to feel truly included or welcome in hockey spaces until the league and the teams and the players step up and make it clear that racism and other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated in any shape or form

like you can play is all good and fun and necessary but it’s not gonna do jack shit until the league stops giving slaps on the wrist to racists and homophobes and abusers within the nhl

just recently i was thinking about how the bruins having a roster of only white players, while not necessarily a reflection on the values of the bruins organization itself, is a clear symptom of how ingrained racism is in the sport and how unwelcoming it is to poc as a whole

idk if i’m making sense or if anyone will read this but. very very depressing how kandre can get slurs thrown at him and then there’s absolute radio silence from his own team who’re just ignoring it and won’t say a single thing to condemn it
