A note to headeachers. YOU have been holding the fort, making decisions with no guidance at all. YOU have been reassuring, comforting, protecting, making secure so the rest of us could stay safe and begin to adjust. YOU deserve a break. We’ve got your backs. Rest for now.
If you know a headteacher who wouldn't murder you for mentioning them in public and who's been brilliant, please mention them on here!
Most of us have had a chance to adapt to the new 'normal' thanks to SLT and HTs taking the slack. Excellent leadership - with no training and no preparation - has been in action all over the country. Let them know how appreciated our wise and kind leaders are, please.
And if you work with or even know a headteacher, please send them a note to tell them that you appreciate them and why. Trust me, it will mean the world to them.
I had a friend called Kevin who also happened to be my headteacher and boss and who tragically died by suicide five years ago. He'd have wanted me to say thi, #edutwitter

We each have our own challenges, but SUPPORT UPWARDS, SIDEWAYS AND IN EVERY DIRECTION YOU CAN JUST NOW.
And, bearing in mind that NOBODY can please everyone all of the time, you're a bit pissed off, bear in mind that your leaders were receiving crucial updates after 17.00, expected to implement them by the morning, and have been managing more competing demands than I can imagine.
And (and and!) headteachers have their OWN children and vulnerable relatives, and fears.
The surreal thing about all of this is that I don't know one educator who wouldn't rush past the gates to take this off your shoulders but for so many reasons, we just CAN'T.

So thank you. Thank you for fulfilling the moral purpose that we can't. Thank you for taking the risks.
Two years ago, I was about to embark on the NPQH. I pulled out at the last minute for various non-sinister reasons. This could have been me. I am in AWE of the headteachers who continue to deal with this crisis and slightly ashamedly relieved I 'escaped'. You are amazing.
Special thanks to our daughter's school @KL_School_UK for providing just the right balance between guidance and trust and understanding during these crazy times. AND they made protective equipment for the NHS!
