THREAD ON HOW BROOKLYN NINE NINE IS COP PROPAGANDA.

TO START: i do not care if you like the show i don’t care if you know it’s propaganda and still decide to watch it. you can like the show it is funny and well written. but this is me educating you and how it can effect people because it is propaganda. let’s begin.

so first things first. almost every type of media that is centered around anything serious in real life is propaganda. which isn’t inherently bad but it is good to be aware about when forming your own opinions on a topic.

any show about cops is cop propaganda no matter what

b99 is a wonderful example of well thought out propaganda. propaganda, if done properly, will NOT be obvious to you as a viewer.
- a common misconception about propaganda is that it’s noticeable and ridiculous. no. if this were the case no one would fall for propaganda.

“what? b99 can’t be copaganda! it focuses on social issues.”
this is how it draws you in! Oh! a comedy show that is woke! it’s just a coincidence that it’s about cops. in fact, maybe it’s even making fun of cops. this is great! let me watch it. this is the intended audience

the main characters all being “good cops” is not a coincidence. neither is the fact that they make mistakes sometimes. having relatable characters who have your stance on social issues helps you empathize with them. the goal is for you to think “well these cops are good”

these characters likeableness is highlighted by having dumb or corrupt cops. the main characters are the good guys. everyone else is dumb incompetently evil. b99 isn’t trying to make you think All Cops Are Good. just that... well... not all of them are bad...

however! what b99 fails to show is that while there ARE cops who share your stances on social issues, there are cops who wish things would be better, they are still part of an inherently racist and corrupt system. being a part of this makes you bad too. hence, ACAB.

this makes people prone to the statement “well 10% of cops are good” when it comes to discussions on ACAB which stems from the racism ingrained into the US justice system. by silencing ACAB you are silencing BLM and victims of the justice system.

it’s also been brought to my intention that a lot of viewers don’t know about the US prison system, which is fine. but please know they are using the NYPD precincts for a REASON.

the NYPD is notorious for their racism and brutality. the NYPD has historically gotten in trouble for brutality and it hasn’t exactly gotten better!

so, by using the NYPD in the show, the idea that yeah, NYPD as a whole isn’t great... there are precincts who care about social reform, right?

let’s look at the merch. notice how a lot of it says NYPD? by wearing shirts and jackets that say NYPD you are now endorsing the NYPD in real life. wearing your b99 merch out into the world quite literally states “here is me supporting the NYPD”

notice how there is little difference in the designs? yeah. that’s on purpose.

“well yeah, of course, but none of this has changed my mind about cops being bad.” GOOD! but you know who will have their mind changed? people who didn’t have a strong opinion on cops. children who consume b99 cus it’s a comedy. international viewers who didn’t know nypd was real

people who don’t already know what the NYPD has done because they live in different countries or they are to young to know or stayed out of cop info are now saying things like “i love NYPD” “fuck cops but the NYPD is cool” “america’s prison system is bad. except the NYPD”

and now! i hope it’s clear to you why people are saying it’s propaganda. it isn’t a direct attack against YOU. it’s an attack against the system. ACAB even the bitches in b99. thank you for reading!
