Alright guys, this probably isn't my place. But I've honestly had enough...

I'm a 40-hour/week grocery worker and this is my TED talk on how to shop during this pandemic. #COVID19 #COVID19Pandemic
First of all...

I want to acknowledge everyone who's doing their best to adhere to all the rules and trying their best to make sure the curve is flattened. You guys are just as important as any essential worker during this time.

YOU are the heroes. Thank you!
Also, I want to add that I am not a doctor, physician or a medical professional in training of any kind.

I do like to think I'm well educated on the subject, however. I've done my research and I've kept up to date on all the headlines as my second job pertains to the media.
No. 1 - KEEPING YOUR DISTANCE

This applies to everyone. Grocer to grocer, grocer to customer, customer to customer.

Staying 6ft away IS social distancing and anything short of that is dangerous for yourself and the other individuals in question.
Furthermore, if I tell you to step back, I am not saying that YOU are sick.

I am saying that for YOUR benefit. I come in contact with thousands of people a day. For all I know, I could be a carrier.

The amount of people who have replied with "oh, I'm not sick" is staggering.
Adding to that, I understand that people usually shop pretty regularly.

But please try your best to stay away. My regular customers (most of whom are 50+) are still shopping day to day.

I saw one regular three days in a row. On the third day he came in for grapes. That's it.
If you come to the store and all you need is grapes. Stay home.

That's not a recommendation.

Thats mandated by the government, health officials and literally everyone who has half a brain.
No. 2 - Gloves

This is big one for me.

For most, sanitary gloves are a new product in your everyday life. I, on the other hand, have used them for years.

Here's some tips on making sure you're using your PPE correctly.
Your sanitary gloves are only sanitary for as long as you're willing to keep them as such.

If you cough into, sneeze into or rub any orifice on your face with your gloves, they are contaminated.

You might as well use your bare hands.

***at least you can sanitize your hands***
And while I'm on the sanitizer thing...

Hand sanitizer works when the ethanol soaks into your hands, thus killing the germs that could be harmful (and basically any other germs for that matter)

They do not work on your sanitary gloves.
Work gloves, mittens, or gloves that you would otherwise use to keep warm are not sanitary gloves.

They are made of fabric and fabric is full of holes. You might as well use your bare hands.

Same goes for scarves. They are not face mask. You just look silly.

No 3. - When's the best time to shop?

I don't blame the general public for this one. There's no way anybody could know when the "peak times" are without having been in the store as much as I have.

Here's some tips on how to avoid large crowds while you shop.
First thing in the morning, or anytime a store first opens is the WORST possible time to shop.

(Seniors, I'm looking at you here)

Thursday I opened the store at 7:58 a.m. (two minutes early) and we reached our capacity of 50 people at 8:01.
Shopping first thing in the morning is a bad idea is because typically the essential items you're looking to get "dibs" on haven't even arrived yet.

On average our delivery trucks have been 2-3 hours late. Not knocking truck drivers either. They're all doing the best they can!
I find the best time to come shopping g for essentials is around noon.

Usually the shelves are getting pretty stocked by that point.

If you're just looking to avoid a crowd, come 1-2 hours before close. There's usually 10-20 people floating around the store at that time.
No 4. (AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT) - we are not here to cure your boredom.

There's really nothing else to say about this one.

If you're in my store because there's nothing better to do, GET OUT!

Read a book, do a puzzle, do some gardening. Honestly people!
I really hope people read this and spread the word.

If you feel personally attacked by this you are 1000% the reason we're going to be in a pandemic until July at the earliest.

There is NO counter argument.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk, stay safe all ✌
