This will be a breakdown on Luffy v Katakuri and why Luffy is stronger than Katakuri no matter how much you’d like to deny it. And anyone who has not beaten a YC1 shouldn’t be compared to Luffy and what makes this fight such an amazing feat for the future pirate King Luffy.
Before I say anything about the fight let’s just get it out of the way that a lot if not most One Piece fights have to do with willpower more than anything. If you have the will to win you will win the fight and surpass your former self.
Another thing before we get into the logistics of the fight let’s acknowledge that both Katakuri and Luffy both have all three colors of haki going into this fight and clash with CoC in this scene
First we’ve got Katakuri introducing us to future sight. This is the ability to be able to see into the future using advanced level observation haki. It is stated that u must be concentrating enough to use future sight at a high level otherwise the user will not be as on point. 1
This will come into play later as to why Katakuri wasn’t able to see into the future and dodge Luffy’s attacks for the whole fight.
The next part of the fight and possibly the most important aspect is Luffy’s gear 4 snakeman. This is what set him over the edge and really gave him the speed and power to beat Katakuri
Now here we have an explanation of what actually happens and how Luffy’s attacks are changed when he goes gear 4 snakeman. Luffy can use the combination of the Gomu Gomu no mi powers infused with haki to bend his attacks while they’re being cast to make a sort of homing effect-
Here’s a beautiful display of how Luffy can change his attacks mid air to have a sort of homing effect and making them extremely hard to dodge. Paired with future sight Luffy can predict how Katakuri is going to react and be one step ahead, making him even more dangerous.
Another very interesting aspect of Luffy v Katakuri is Katakuri harming himself to bring himself down to Luffy’s level. While this does harm Katakuri I think a common misconception is that this had more affect on the fight than Luffy did himself. Luffy still did 90% of the work-
And if this fight were to go down again paired with Ryou Katakuri wouldn’t need to do that. This fight transcended Luffy above YC1 level.
Later into the fight we can see that as Luffy beats down Katakuri even more it becomes more difficult to use his future sight consciously as I mentioned before. The influx of attacks Luffy was sending at Katakuri was too much for his body to handle while consciously using-
Advanced observation or future sight to combat Luffy’s attacks.
Another common misconception of Luffy v Katakuri is the ultimate defeat of Katakuri. As you can see Katakuri says “you’re seeing pretty far into the future” which is him admitting that Luffy’s future sight has surpassed his. Luffy’s constant influx of Gear 4 Snakeman paired with-
Him being able to see farther into the future than Katakuri is Luffy’s extremely impressive haki bloom this fight.
As you can see at the end of the fight Luffy defeats Katakuri and he is the man that’s on the ground ultimately losing. All the different things that happened within this fight didn’t make it any less impressive for Luffy. He still fought for 12+ hours starting off at a-
Disadvantage and surpassing his opponent which makes this Luffy’s most impressive fight so far. Also I wouldn’t be against Katakuri one day joining forces with Luffy maybe I’ll do a thread on this in the future.
