I cannot think of a worse time to implement a UBI than in the middle of this economic crisis.

Some of us are doing fine. Others need unprecedented government support just to stay afloat.

UBI would spread that support thinner, or quickly spend 10s of billions we may need later.

Don’t get me wrong, a UBI has its merits. As work becomes increasingly automated and wealth is further concentrated with capital rather than labour, there is a case for a wealth tax and a UBI. But we’re probably some time away from that still.
