It& #39;s started: a tenant just reached out to me, asking if I could defer rent because she& #39;s been furloughed today. All I can say is, you& #39;re paid up thru 30 April, let& #39;s talk again in a couple weeks and see what& #39;s happening before May rent is due, and we& #39;re all in this together. 1/
What I *want* to say is "sure, no problem, you don& #39;t have to worry about rent right now. Banks have deferred mortgages for the next 3 months." But I can& #39;t, b/c I still owe the mortgage, insurance, water bill, trash bill, and taxes, and *I& #39;m* not getting paid at my job either. 2/
I& #39;m disappointed in the amount of landlord hate on Twitter. Some landlords are terrible. But many are just normal people who own a property or two, and it& #39;s their side business. There is significant risk to being a landlord, and it& #39;s not "passive income." 3/
I will do the best I can for my tenants, because that& #39;s the right thing to do. I& #39;d just appreciate some help on this, from those higher up the food chain than me. That& #39;s all. Get it together, banks, and help us out. We bailed you out with our tax dollars, didn& #39;t we??
