Korean Movie Recommendations: Thread
Since most of us are asked to stay at home, here are some of the K-Movies I've watched and would love to recommend. These are just what I can think of atm. May update the list if I recall a movie I forgot to mention.
Foremost, some of these films have dark twisted plots, with disturbing scenes, etc, (I'm a fan of this genre. Kkk.) so if our tastes don't align, you may check out the later part of the thread - the lighter ones.
Movies are arranged based on those that I really liked, levels of violence, morbid scenes (at least to me) and the overall storyline.
Here ya go! 😊

On top are (ofc) movies by the great director, Bong Joon-ho.

Memories of Murder tops my list. Many will prolly choose Mother, but I personally liked that MOM was based on the Hwaseong serial murders. Mother comes close at 2. It's a masterpiece, no questions.
3. The 1st movie from Bong that I watched. I watched the Tagalog dubbed version, but liked it nonetheless. I still watched the original version years after lol.
4. Ofc everyone knows this is one hella good movie. Worthy of all the praises and awards.
5 & 6. Both have foreign productions, but Bong's brilliance rlly transcends boundaries. I was fascinated by the storyline of these movies esp how the Korean/Asian touch was successfully integrated in this kind of production.
Next is the Vengeance Trilogy by Park Chan-wook.

Oldboy is by far the most disturbing here.
Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance are fairly violent but bearable imo.
Next tier is for those films that fcked me up too. Those that are so unsettling that part of you wouldn't wanna watch anymore, but for some reason you stay til the end of it all.
1. I can still feel the torture to this day lol.
2. Also by director Park Chan-wook. Almost made me throw up.
3. Disregarding the intense sex scenes, this one amazed me bc of its setting and the topic it tackled.
4. Weird, frustrating & full of injustice
5. A long ass film
but definitely worth it
6. Still one of the most amazing psychological films to date imo
7. Gong Yoo as the protagonist. This one got me cursing literally. It's also based on a real case, so if you happen to watch this, try to look up the real case. It's messed up fr.
8. Aside from the rlly good plot, I was amazed at Son Ye Jin's beauty here lol.
9. Is a saeguk movie that is somewhat similar to Handmaiden bc of what it depicts. (Song Jihyo and Jo In Sung were here)
10. Intriguing but bearable
11. The other side of Lee Jong Suk kkk
12. Kim Go Eun and Lee Min Ki. This one's good. I was surprised at LMK's role here. It fits him tho, and he was good in here.
13. Based on Haruki Murakami's Barn Burning. Another long ass movie. A slow burn thriller that needs patience.
14. Has an intelligent and interesting plot. Kang Ha Neul starred here.
16. Starring Gong Hyo Jin, my forever girl crush. This one's gripping,
with good plot, and honestly, I think every woman (esp those living alone) should watch this.
16. Song Jong Ki and Jang Geun Suk. Based on a real murder case too.
17. Kim Da-mi & Choi Woo-shik. I admired KDM's badass role here. It fits her.
These are some of the less violent but equally good films.

1. One of the best political movies I've watched. This one needs patience since most early scenes are preparations for the slapping ending scenes lol.
2. BB T.O.P's role here was superb
3. One of the best films last year
4. Watched this bc of Lee Kwang Soo, but fell in love w/ Park Jung Min. I was never disappointed. Made me wanna watch the other Tazza films.
5. Hilarious but filled with morals esp for those struggling at age 20. The Kim Woo Bin, Kang Ha Neul & Junho bromance made this one gold.
Special mentions:

1 & 2. Ofc everyone knows these films. 2 of the best SoKor films out there
3. Park Seo-joon in an exorcism film. A good combination.
4 & 5. Massive hits. And still waiting for Kyungsoo's military discharge for the 3rd & 4th parts.
That's it, folks. End of thread. Happy watching, stay home and stay safe! xxx
