1 Was on the phone with @united for an hour trying to get the refund I’m legally entitled to. The lady came back three times to offer me a voucher, all of which I said (very politely) I’m not interested. She finally they told me that they cannot issue me a refund.
2 she said I have to work through their refunds department, that I was speaking with the reservations department. I work in a big org so I said okay I understand, can you please connect me with them? She said, AND IM NOT MAKING THIS UP, “we don’t have their phone number.”
3. baffled, I asked how can I contact them. She said there’s a form I have to submit online to request a refund, I can’t talk to a person.
4- side note: I actually tried to submit this form yesterday to avoid talking with someone and there’s a major glitch in it to which I couldn’t submit it.
5- I tell the woman that I tried to submit the form yesterday and there’s a glitch preventing me from doing so. She proceeds to tell me there’s a specific number I have to put in the form that is not the confirmation number that will get the form to submit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
6 I ask her for the number and she gives it to me, we hang up. I go to fill out the form on my computer this time just in case the glitch was mobile-related, and it still happens. I put in the other ID number she gave me and it works, thanks fully.
7. I’m sure there’s more to this sage since airlines are currently withholding 35 billion in refunds to consumers and breaking the law by refusing refunds and forcing vouchers. I’ll keep everyone updated
8. The last thing I’ll add is how sketchy that refund form glitch i mentioned is. Like anything related to travel, you enter your confirmation number and last name to bring up the flights you want to be refunded for. It seems like it works bc they show up.
9- but what you find out when thinking you’re done and hitting submit is that there must be some sort of “select this ticket” button or check box missing, becuase the form gets rejected for not specifying which flights you want to be refunded for.
10- that’s when you can enter the previously mentioned magic 12 digit number I had to get by calling the airline.
11- Maybe coincidence, but maybe not. Either way, I’m sure there are a lot of people not able to submit the form because if it, and by extension not able to request a refund to their money back becuase apparently the refund Dept doesn’t have a phone number.
FYI @scottsflights this thread details my experience with @united this afternoon attempting to get a refund for my cancelled flight. You’ve been amazing at keeping consumers informed so thought I’d let you know.
