I want to debunk one thing: One of the main argument Nux had was that Mirio was more deserving of OFA than Deku and he tried to say that the Overhaul arc really tried to show deku deserve it more. The Overhaul arc wasn't supposed to prove that Deku deserved it more but the fact
that a quirkless boy ALSO deserve it. One of the biggest difference between Deku and Mirio is that Mirio is very
calculated (like sir) while Deku had that bit of craziness in him (like all might) thats why Sir could never really understand All mights/Deku's drive and tenacity.
Nux made deku's this drive and naivety something to slander him on. That's the point, deku is reckless and people have called him out on that plenty of times. Even in the second episode, after he tried to save bakugo, the pros reprimanded deku for running in, and Sir also
called him out on it. It's all part of how he is a learning student and why he is so realistic as a character. Nux is pushing this narrative that a character's weakness is a character "flaw". Horikoshi is very well aware of Deku's flaws and the fact that people love Mirio but
hate Deku is the very purpose of Mirio's character. Mirio is the prototypical feel good shonen forumula of going zero to hero while deku is just a kid given a HUGE responsibility at the age of 14. People just tend to brush off the pressure cause they see all these "badass" shonen
protagonist and they are like "why can't deku be like that" but that's not how MHA is written. Deku since he was little has always been the regular kid (not a genius, not talented, not special), YES he got somewhat lucky for meeting all might but his actions also placed him in
the situation he is in now. Yea deku's growth is slow but he has only been in UA for ONE YEAR. People expect to have this kid to have an epiphany and change as a whole character. Deku encapsulate the themes and narrative of MHA so well. People just dont like realistic characters
I dont understand how people can praise characters like Gon who is very also immature, hypocritical, and somewhat sociopathic at times, then look at Deku and say he is a bad character. Both Gon's and Deku's weakness as kids is what gives layers to their character. Yes Gon is more
fleshed out but MHA also tends to focus on a lot of other characters besides Deku so his growth is slower. Yes Deku can be very emotional, naive, and "frustrating" at times but what kid isn't? This only shows how much room for growth he has in the future.
