Heartfelt message and invitation...
There is a theory, an idea, a way of thinking and acting that centers around doing the least harm. Some argue that we should strive to do no harm. Of course we should, but we are human and not infallible.
As a teacher I want to do no harm but realize that despite my best intentions I'm sure I do at times without even realizing. It could be in the curriculum I deliver by not being culturally knowledgeable or sensitive, by not being respectful of a students feelings or time,
by not thoughtfully thinking through my words, etc... We hopefully learn and strive to do better, be better.

Right now, the idea of doing the least harm is at the forefront of my mind as educators, administrators, boards of education and politicians try to navigate schools being
closed. We are all experiencing harm right now in similar and different ways. I can list all the very many wonderful ways we are taking care of each other in this time of need but my focus is on the harm. We are being put in positions where we have no choice.
Educators, school leaders, politicians please carefully consider the necessity of every action, new rule, assignment, ask or demand and the harm your decisions could be imparting on those who are in your charge. Seemingly little things appear big right now.
We must be more mindful, more vigilant in our thinking as to how our actions affect others in the hope that it will trickle down and we will all soon feel less harm.
