I know that this is not possible in all disciplines, but here is my grading policy for my remote freshman level humanities survey class for Spring Quarter 2020. Also, I teach at a rural community college. We start on Monday, April 6. 1/x

I assume my students will need maximum flexibility.
They may be sick;
they may be caring for others who are sick;
they may be overwhelmed with all the changes;
they may need to attend to their mental health;
they may have spotty internet connections and technology. 2/x
A NOTE ABOUT DUE DATES:

Deadlines are going to have to be fluid for a lot of people this spring, so we'll have a "best by" due date. There will be people who will need to submit later for all sorts of reasons. 3/x
There won't be a penalty, but if you can submit by the "best by" date, assignments can be graded in a reasonable amount of time and you will be able to keep up with the general pace of the course. 4/x
GRADES for Spring 2020
A note about grades - there will be six options for activities each week.

If you do three, that is a C, four is a B and 5 is an A.

So you will have 10 weeks of grades that are of equal weight. For example: 5/x
week 1 - 75 (C) - 3 activities completed

week 2 - 85 (B) - 4 activities completed

week 3 - 85 (B) - 4 activities completed

week 4 - 75 (C) - 3 activities completed

overall grade = 80
6/6 You will also be able to go back to options from previous weeks, so if you were able to do three of the options in week 1, but later you decide you have time / interest to do another option from week 1, feel free!
