My mum, an NHS nurse has had to go home sick after exhibiting flu like symptoms. A thread. A rant. A plea. #NHS #Covid19 1/10

@BorisJohnson @MattHancock @Jeremy_Hunt @RishiSunak
I've not been this incensed in a long time. A couple of weeks ago my dad was admitted to the hospital where my mum works because he was exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms.

He has many underlying health issues and is in the "at risk" demographic. 2/10
Because my mum came into contact with my dad she was sent home to self isolate until he was cleared as not having coronavirus. And he was. Thank God. She was allowed to return to work and though she had a cough she was deemed asymptomatic. 3/10
Her cough persisted but she still remained untested. Her temperature was checked and as it was within the safe parameters she was asked to continue to work. 4/10
This was until yesterday when her temperature went over the safe limit and she was sent home. Still untested.

I just got off the phone with her and she informs me that she's been working without proper #PPE and has been told to go home and self isolate for two weeks. 5/10
The same has happened to 4 other nurses who have had to go home with symptoms from her department alone. And all ahead of the expected tsunami of patients in the coming weeks. 6/10
I'm obviously personally invested because this is my mum and this phonecall I just had with her was hard as she couldn't speak very much or laugh without coughing. I actually ended the call early telling her to rest. 7/10
So, without getting unsavoury I want to know why more isn't being done to look after and protect the NHS workers we are so enthusiastically clapping? 8/10
A front line nurse needs more care and more protection than any politician. They are the ones facing the danger. In the wars we didn't send soldiers out in tshirt and shorts while politicians were clad in armor. 9/10
I'm staying indoors. I'm trying to protect the NHS in the only way I can. Why aren't you doing everything in your power to protect and equip the individuals that can make a difference and save lives during this time?

This is not good enough. 10/10
