We have some great members in the CHAMP lab who we want to introduce. Every CHAMPer plays an important role in our lab and we want to show off all their hard work. To start off our spotlight series, we have the wonderful @kelly_pitts!

#CHAMPLabSpotlightSeries #CHAMPions
Kelly is the CHAMP lab field technician--a very important role as the field team is beginning to treat corals in the field with probiotics for the first time in history.
Kelly earned a master's degree in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University. She was first author on a recently published paper on the effects of both ocean acidification and warming on the early life history stages of the stony coral, Orbicella faveolata (See link below)
There's no such thing as a "typical" day for Kelly. Some of her lab activities include treating wild corals with experimental probiotics, analyzing field data, and assisting with experiments on corals in the lab's aquaria...
...and sometimes, her day involves smelling strange things for science festivals.
Kelly is the mitochondria of the lab: She always brings a positive and hardworking energy that powers the team… even when the job at hand isn't strictly in the job description! (Yes, an iron is required to keep some field equipment in tip top shape.)
You'll never guess what Kelly loves to do in her free time ... Shocking, we know.
We are so lucky to have @kelly_pitts in our lab!
