Here's some @GoldhartG processes to make your #ttrpg streams safer and foster trust. You can take this cheque to the bank.
- safety tool drills! Like emergency stops in a car, get your dms and throw a x card down during a convo and let them sign off.
- consent forms that include not just topics, but also mechanics! Don't like fetch quests? Hate no win scnerios. Dms Pcs feel uncomfortable!? Let your dms know.
- session zero all the time. Not just before the first session. Touch base, touch base often. Every season. Every ten episodes. Things change, prep changes the plot changes. Characters grow and develop so do their needs.
- are you a dm, then let your players direct you are the stage, scenery and walk on characters. They are the leads and it's their voice we should be hearing.
- lay down your expectations often and frequently. Is this a horror game, then tell your players that at the time they should come with a mind set to be scared.
- aftercare. After a session wind down together, the buzz is real but it doesn't matter if you've been a dm for a day or since the dawn of time. There's always a way to improve and get that feedback.
- "yes and" is trash. Stop it. Throw it out. There is safety in a no, there is inclusion in a no. This is for players and dms. As a player you always can say no.
- did you plan for all your cool stuff to happen if your players go right, but instead they went left? Then move all that stuff to the left. It's really that simple.
Right before the session let the group know your plans. You don't even need to be detailed. You'll find less rail roading happens. Cooperatively write in character scenes ask what your players would like to do.
Whatever tool you use to communicate use chat. USE CHAT. USSSSEEEEEEE CHAT. need a scene, have a question, can't remember a detail. Someone at your table does.
I've seen too many people say you can't be a 100% agency dm. You. Are. Wrong. I am that dm. The dms on my channel are those types of dms. Start with the tips above and you can too.
Rant over. I found my spoons. I've been fuming for days.
