We are worth so much more than the crumbs this government throws us. This is an insult to every Arts worker in Ireland. As the world sits at home absorbing books, art, netflix and free online theatre, our government has decided to partner with a tax avoiding conglomerate for 1/6 https://twitter.com/Campaign4Arts/status/1246089883308998663
artists to hand over their intellectual property in a hungergames styled bureaucratic fight for the death, oh but only if you haven't already applied for the emergency Covid19 payment! 2/6
But what about artists and arts workers whose work cannot suddenly become "Digital", what of all the arts workers who cannot work remotely, what of the stage managers, technicians, designersand engineers, who @josephamadigan has not deemed to mention. What about us? 3/6
What support is there for us, whose work disappeared over night, months of work. Some of it cancelled, some of it attempting to be rescheduled but for a self-employed freelancer whose work in the months from March-Sept (generally our busiest time of year or "festival session")4/6
that work helps supports me in my quieter months when work in not so lucrative.what support is the government offering us? None. As usual. Please think of that as you read, watch tv & films and stream arts content to get you through this and plan all the festivals and events u 5/
will go to when this is over, this industry is built on the backs of arts freelancers of all trades and this will kill us, there will be nothing left of the arts if our government doesn't support us. Rant over. #covidartscrisis @Campaign4Arts @AIST_News
