We are experiencing concerning violent crime trends since the stay at home order went into effect last week. As a result trends we have changed our tactics and have deployed additional staff to proactively target violent offenders as well as follow-up on gun related offenses.
Violent offenders should be aware there is room waiting for them at the county jail and during this health crisis we will be seeking charges to the fullest extent of our laws - including federal prosecution.
Here are the crime/calls for service increases and decreases since stay at home order went into effect (3/25/20 – 4/1/20) compared to the 3 year average for the same time period.
Offense/Call Increases

Overall agg (serious) assault- 61% increase
Firearm related agg. assaults- 15% increase
Auto theft- 10% increase
Trespass- 20% increase Vandalism- 32% increase
Weapons violations- 54% increase much is due to criminal discharge of firearms
Offense/Call Decreases

Sex assault- 60% decrease
Robbery- 50% decrease
Burglary- 20% decrease
Larceny from auto- 6% decrease
Shoplifting- 27% decrease-many stores are closed
Traffic accidents 64% decrease
Child abuse/abandonment- 7% decrease
DV assaults 1% decrease
