As we continue to fight #COVID19, I want to recognize the amazing @nyulangone #geriatrics and #pallcare division physicians, nurses, and social workers who have risen to the occasion to care for New Yorkers. In the past three weeks we have:
Opened up & staffed a new medical service caring for older adults recovering from #covid19. Our geriatricians' diverse skills in geriatrics, palliative care, inpatient and sub-acute medicine are invaluable in this work.
Special thanks to our incredible geriatric fellows who have stepped up as leaders in our efforts.
Our palliative care team & fellows are providing amazing, 24/7 support to our ICUs & EDs with compassion &efficiency, as NYULH continues to add ICU beds & take over surgical & other floors to support the massive influx of pts. Their organization & stamina are inspiring to us all.
We grieve at the impact of #covid19 in older adults, &admire our heroic faculty members in nursing homes who are risking their lives to care for their many #covid19 pts. A major shout-out to our fellow who has volunteered to be in our teaching nursing home for as long as needed.
We continue to be amazed and uplifted by our many older patients who are recovering from #covid19. They seem to get rapidly deconditioned and we are planning to follow their recovery course. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of these recoverers!
Here in NYC, the epicenter of the #covid19 pandemic, I am so grateful to our division for adapting to this new normal as fast as you can say “redeployment”! We are all working as hard as we can to care for our patients in all the ways they experience #covid19.
Please stay home and help #FlattenTheCurve so that we can continue to care for them!
