THREAD.

People are saying this is not the time for politics. This is both naive and deeply dangerous.

Politics right now is why we’ll be stuck in our homes far longer than we should be.

Politics is why 100,000 to 1 million people will die instead of 10,000 or fewer.
Politics is why states like Florida are getting 200% their needed equipment and New York is getting 17%.

It’s why you will know people in NYC not getting proper care, and nurses and other frontline workers getting sick and dying, leading to a potential healthcare collapse.
All of this is politics.

No natural disaster, from wildfires in California to a massive flood in New Orleans, can be separated from the leaders in charge of the response.

If you can’t see that, you’re not empowering anyone but those killing you and your families.
It is not just COVID that has affected us. It is narcissistic politics.

A pandemic doesn't have to be like this. But it is.

Instead of platitudes about getting along and transcending division, we should be asking how that division started and how platitudes do or don’t help.
Of course, take care of yourselves first.

But don’t forget that taking care of others means fighting for them when others are using them, hurting them, killing them.

And that means engaging in politics.
