You know, for a long time I wondered why I liked Tanjirou so much when "the stupidly kind guy" has never been my type of shit, and thinking about it I realized something:

Tanjirou is very different from other characters that share his archetype.
There are other many stories with protagonists who are unbelievable kind like Tanjirou but they're not very likeable for me and I think I found the reason.

Let's put an example, Deku from BnHA and Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul. Those are both stories that I followed for some time+
And I did like Kaneki and Deku but...not so much, really. And I think that's because their kindness is shown in a completely different light.

Let me explain: In the case of Kaneki, when we start the story he's very soft, innocent and kind, but he's put in a world full of+
Hostility and madness. As soon as he gets there, people take advantage of him due to his kindness and he suffers a lot because of it. He ends up changing his personality to be tougher and that it's considered "growth"

In the case of Deku, it's not that extreme, the fact that+
He's kind is one of the reasons why All Might picked him, and his friends appreciate that part of his personality, but his kindness is often tied to inexperience and shyness and other people take advantage of him because of it. Like there's a point where you get mad at Deku
For being the way he is and you think "this guy should really grow a thicker skin" or "he shouldn't be so nice to people that are mean to him, he should defend himself"

Those are feelings that never come to mind while reading Kimetsu No Yaiba and that's because+
Even if it's realistic that an excess of kindness can be negative, it's not like that in KNY at all, actually, it's the complete opposite.

Tanjirou's kindness is never shown as a weakness or something he should change in any way. No one takes advantage of him.
Tanjirou's kindness is his biggest quality and the tool that gets him where he is, and this the thing: Kindness in KNY will always be the most respected and appreciated trait in all characters. Instead of people looking down on Tanjirou for being too good in a cruel world, +
Kindness is what makes all the other characters love him and respect him. When he's kind, it's not only a proof that he is a good person, but also a sign of wiseness. Tanjirou is young and innocent but also mature and wise.

KNY is not a story where you have to become hostile+
In order to survive in a hostile world like Tokyo Ghoul, nor is a quality that should be shaped and changed in a way that wouldn't let people take advantage of you, or makes you more vulnerable, KNY is a story where kindness will always be praised and present in all the +
Characters that are supposed to be liked/admired.

In short, Tanjirou's kindness is his most admirable and important trait. It won't make you frustrated or annoyed because it's never a weakness or something negative in any way. You look up to Tanjirou, not down.
