The politics, which are the main aspect of the series, work so well because the show has quite a huge cast of interesting, likable and well written characters. Each character represents a unique ideology or outlook on life, while having their own personal drama, tribulations and

moral dilemmas, which make their interactions rich and diverse

The plot can be predictable at times, but everything happens in such an interesting and epic way,that I never wanted to skip a second of the show.Every event has an overwhelming scale and complex personal and political implications, making it so it doesn't get boring at any point

LotGH depicts many themes and explores them in a masterful way: While showing glorious and noble heroism, it doesn't shy away from portraying the horrors of war and how this tragedy is lived by the civil population and the common soldier

This is an anime that truly paints a complete picture of the contrast between the light and the darkness of human nature as well as the eternal ideological dillema between democracy and autocracy

While I do acknowledge that this anime is flawed in a bunch of ways (visual presentation, voice acting, emotional peaks and predictability) and I think the community should recognize its problems, I also genuinely believe that this OVA is a phenomenal work of art with one of the

most amazing narratives and messages in the medium

It's true that some fans of this anime at insufferable pretentious elitist, but I can assure you that all of the ones I've met, are nice and interesting people who accept the opinions of others. Just don't let the annoying minority ruin your experience with this show

Also, don't fear that you "aren't ready" for this one. I think any anime fan should give it a try, because despite being one of the most intelligent anime ever made, it's also not complicated to understand at all. Please give it a try, and I hope you enjoy it!
