There’s lots of discussion about lack of testing for #covid19, but even if you get tested it can take too long to receive results. My dad was tested 16 DAYS AGO w/ no results, and is still not well, yet Vandy told him it “should be over." #Covid19testing 1/

My parents returned from NOLA (now an epicenter of #Covid19) on 3/13 after being there for a conference. Days later my father started a low-grade fever & a cough. Then, it was exhaustion & no sense of smell. Next, headaches & sense of taste. 2/

According to Vandy, he’s part of 3,000 tests w/ LabCorp. They don’t know when he’ll get his results & we can’t get a faster response test. They only tested him for Covid, no strep or flu tests. So, he’s stuck w/ whatever he has w/ no medical diagnosis or help - indefinitely. 3/

They’ve been quarantined for well over 14 days or they have practiced distancing since they returned. It is otherworldly to check on your parents through the windows and doors of their home. Momma yells at me if I even motion towards a door handle. 4/

He’s still tired and has headaches, but his smell and taste have returned. My mother has no symptoms, but she’s having some difficulty with a chronic condition. Still, she doesn’t qualify for a test till we have his results. 5/

We cont. to have a family quarantine plan in place if I need to go in before Easter. It boggles my mind that we have no medical guidance. Nobody has a clear answer on if mom should start her quarantine over, just in case she got it on Day 14. Vandy responded with, "You could." 6/

I’m certain he has it. (Would it be "had it" now?) I become enraged when I see groups of people in each other’s yards or driveways. I practically ran from a person at the grocery because she kept getting too close to people. 7/

Also at the grocery, an older man leaned towards me and reached out to touch my arm. I stepped back and his response was, “Smile and you’ll be prettier.” A worldwide pandemic can’t even smash the patriarchy. 8/

On a positive note, my boys have been extra loving to each other - I expected quite the opposite. I finally planted a bunch of bulbs I’ve been putting off. @JeremyElrod26’s mustache has provided some needed levity, as he looks like a Mario Brother. 9/

We’ve been honest and open with the boys about the situation, and I’ve told them right now you can only be close to or touch people that live with you. Solidarity in this is vital and our biggest weapon. You're not stuck at home. You get to stay at home. End/
