i joined the labour party because of corbyn. the party’s leftward shift was absolutely a product of corbynism and regarding this the work of corbyn but also the shadow cabinet and thousands of activists engaged by his leadership has been inspiring. the 2017 and 2019 manifestos

were radical and transformative. they represented what labour should be. but the antisemitism unleashed under corbyn’s leadership will (and should) mar it forever. don’t forget it, however easy it is to be nostalgic instead. labour let down and, in some cases, actively persecuted

the jewish community, an oppressed minority group to whom we owe so much better and whose trust we have undeniably lost. and i’m sorry but people in the party turned a blind eye and stayed silent (or even denied the reality of the situation) too often

simply because they thought it was awkward or uncomfortable or an annoying drag on the positivity of the movement. it’s still happening today. i know so many great labour activists who left the party because of antisemitism-they’re honestly within their rights not to come back.

going forward from here, we have to do better, and face up to the truth even when it is difficult. antisemitism poisoned the corbyn project - this needs to be acknowledged outright and remembered. we have a lot to make up to the jewish community and we have to work hard at it.

implement the recommendations of the ehrc report when it comes out. protect and support the jewish labour movement. build a complaints system which isn’t a load of opaque bullshit, kick out the antisemites and bigots, and have an internal culture which doesn’t let hatred of any

kind fester. i’m skeptical of how radical a starmer leadership will be in most other senses and p set up to be disappointed in his leadership in myriad other ways but i have hope that these things will be implemented at least & sadly that’s more than i could ever say about corbyn
