This is problematic: a thread
First, it is false. Or at least, there is no source that allows for any verification that it is true. False information is problematic on twitter in many circumstances, but particularly in this case.
This tweet doesn’t fall into that category, because it falsely states that someone has tested positive. The beginning of this thread is NOT my expertise, but rather context for the following discussion. Namely, this tweet is stigmatizing and harmful for those with SARS-CoV2
Responses to this tweet include people who rightly despise Stephen Miller and his white supremacy actively wishing it was true.
This, even if it were true, should not be celebrated. This response implies that COVID-19 is in some way a punishment for the abhorrent way Stephen Miller uses his power and position.
That somehow, he DESERVES to get COVID-19 because of his abject terribleness as a human. But what position does this place others who are at risk?
People who get COVID-19 are not deserving. This is, and will, disproportionately harm people who are already seen as “less human” by the medical system. Those with disabilities, POC, poor people, people without housing.
If we imply Stephen Miller deserves this disease, then it becomes easier for systems that ALREADY dehumanize people to say they also deserve it, or at least do not deserve the resources to save them. Tldr: DISEASE IS NOT A MORAL FAILING
