Crazy that in less than a week I'm launching a company. Even crazier it's happening during a global pandemic. But I just want to talk about why I'm doing this and why it means so much to me. Because I think it's something people need...
I just turned 26 the other day. Wild to think about, but the past two years have been rough in a lot of ways. Mainly dealing with mental health and anxiety. I worked at a comic shop for most of 2018 and part of 2019, it was truly one of the best experiences ever
I also graduated undergrad in 2018. Was forced to take a year and change off because I couldn't afford it anymore. And my first job after graduating was at my lcs. Lol I know, I know. But I've never been conventional
In that time, I worked with @nick_couture. Cool ass guy, and just a chill dude overall. I really can't explain on here how much I love comics. How much I love stories. But I got to talk Nick's ear off most days and we had some amazing convos
We talked a lot about our frustrations with things. I'm a big black male. I can talk about sports just as long as I can talk about politics and comics. I'm not special in that way, just who I am. How my parents raised me. To be well rounded
I never have thought the comics industry was that accepting of black culture. Not just hip-hop or sports, but just black people in general. Sure, the amount of black people in the industry prove me wrong on some level, but I don't think I'm wrong
You either tell a story about black trauma, or are some intellectual negro for publishers to prop up.
"There just aren't that many *insert minority* trying to get into comics"
A fucking lie if I ever heard one

And I experienced racism at the comic store. From management and customers. It was a goddamn mental struggle to deal with people there. To try and constantly try and prove myself, my knowledge, dealing with stereotypes
My manager would always bring me new Black Panther merch we got because he knew
"I just loved Black Panther!"
Yall BP isn't even in my top 20 heroes
Love T'Challa but that type of shit was daily
"I just loved Black Panther!"
Yall BP isn't even in my top 20 heroes

BUT, I continued to work there, sold A LOT of comics, and was also trying to establish my little writing career. Started my blog http://peaceloveandcomics.com in 2016 called "Hero Reviews and News" LOL
And my first review was BvS.....LMAO
And my first review was BvS.....LMAO
And I built a superhero universe with my superhero Mystic Man. And I made some passionate, probably annoying post on Deviant about finding an artist to make my heroes. That's where I met @Vincent_VanHoof
Mystic Man was cool. Will always be my baby but it wasn't hitting how I wanted. I get it, books aren't that poppin, but even "friends" who said they would read it didn't.
Shit hurt.
Shit hurt.
Everyone wants people to check out their work, right? Right. And I see posts on here all the time about how creators aren't treated right, for one reason or another. And it always seems to be common with minority writers. Whether it's lack of support from fans or community
No one deserves that. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard. And not just in comics. Other ways too. And that's basically where the idea for Black Hole came from.
Nick loved the idea right away and it's really all I've been doing/ working on for the last couple years

Black Hole combines pretty much all of our passions into one.
Comics, because, well duh.
Graphic Novels, duh.
Short Stories because I value their importance when it comes to writing.
Creator Interviews because creators are dope as hell.

Short films at some point because I need to get Nick to do a few before he becomes an important Hollywood director.
And a host of other things. I want Black Hole to be a platform that promotes true creativity from all types of people. No bullshit.

And now, during #COVID19 I think people could use an escape. Positive vibes and uplifting stories from creators who are all extremely talented. It's why we're still launching next week.
Also because we're mainly online lol.

Black Hole is me attempting to be the change I want to see. Not just in the industry, but also the world.
You can get somewhere in life by working hard and being decent. You don't have to turn into a clout chasing, angry person for success. I believe that shit.

So when we launch next week check it out. Lots of talented creators and artists involved and I can't thank them enough for their work

This thread has been way too long but that's all I wanted to say. I love comics and stories and want to make them. That's pretty much it. And I never want anyone to feel like their voice doesn't matter.
Go ahead and follow @BHCEnt if you're not and I'll see you April 8th
