I stopped wearing makeup to work.⁣

In order for our N95s to go through UV light sterilization they must not be contaminated with any makeup stains.⁣

The process for our N95s now is as follows:⁣
- Write your name/unit in sharpie on the front of the mask.⁣ (1)
- Each time you doff your N95 place it back into your paper bag with your name on it for the entire shift.⁣
- When your shift ends, place your paper bag in the bin for it to be picked up & sterilized. ⁣
- Each time you get your N95 back it will be in a white paper bag. There will be tick marks on your mask. After the third tick mark it is no longer useable at the end of that shifts. ⁣

I’ve read studies that say this method can degrade the N95 & put the wearer at risk. ⁣
We are only to use our N95s if we have a PUI or COVID Positive PT.Technically the policy states it’s only needed for 70 minutes after an aerosolizing procedure. Research has shown these particles can stay in the air for up to 6 hours after aerosolization. So that’s concerning.
If I have a PUI or Positve patient I’ve been wearing my N95 any time I enter the room🤷🏻‍♀️ Otherwise we wear a surgical mask the entire shift to care for our other patients. We get one surgical mask until it breaks or becomes visibly soiled.
We have been told it would be wise to fold & keep our disposable gowns in our lockers that are normally one time use as we may run out of those soon as well. ⁣

I’m worried gloves are the next to go. ⁣
I can’t hide my under eye bags with concealer anymore. But hey no one can see them under the goggles right? ⁣

I share these posts because I need YOU to know that I am experiencing the same issues you are & I know you’re struggling to cope with this new reality. ⁣
I share these posts because I can’t stay silent on this crisis. We need PPE. Every single thing we’ve learned about infection prevention has gone out the door and it’s unacceptable. It’s putting us at serious risk. The worst part is we’re not even close to the real storm.
