Once again, and I truly hate to say this, the deaths will stay on this trajectory for at least another week, maybe two, because of decisions Boris Johnson and government made two weeks ago. We're locked into this course of avoidable deaths for some time. https://twitter.com/EdConwaySky/status/1246072125854638083
It is going to be a while before we see deaths flatten, because this is a result of people being exposed before lockdown, then the incubation period, then some time of being sick before dying. Deaths are going to continue to rise for a while.
And it also bears repeating that a death toll continuing to rise for 3-4 weeks after lockdown measures start doesn't mean lockdown isn't working.
Anyway, here's a longer thread so I dont have to say it all again https://twitter.com/stavvers/status/1246015645180923904?s=19
Also, and it REALLY distresses me to say this, given our gigantic ventilator shortage we're probably going to see that death stat rise even more dramatically than Italy.
And none of this means lockdown isn't working. Stay home, and make sure you direct the blame in the correct direction: the government, not your neighbour who you suspect of frivolous purchases.
