Lyrical Depth/Density - is a story being told and how deftly is it being told?
Lauryn Hill’s Ex-Factor is near the top of my list, but Breakdown beats it out b/c Lauryn uses a lot of repetition (very well) and Mariah did not take a break on the pen. Better use of space.

Song Structure - y’all know I love Frank and his abandonment of structure, but my resting state, what brings me joy is 2+ verses, hook, chorus, bridge.
That’s so satisfying and why Traditional R&B has been an enduring genre.

Vocal Performance - did. the. singer. sing.
Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac wrote 2 of the most beautiful songs ever with Dreams and Landslide, but vocally they don’t compare to Mariah on Breakdown or Aretha on Ain’t No Way (also on my BEST list).
