why i think sirius gibson is autistic: a thread

so sirius exhibits a Lot of autistic traits and, in my opinion, he's heavily coded to be such, even if it may not be intentional on the creator's part! also just to make it clear i'm autistic so jdhfkd

to start off, sirius has trouble w social interaction and understanding others! that's one of the key traits of autism
it’s mentioned often by both himself + other characters that he has a hard time understanding/interpreting ppl + he’s awful at knowing how to interact w/ others

i think some good examples of this are the scenes in which claire attempts to cheer him up by making funny faces. he takes this as her making fun of him/screwing with him, and gets offended:

often autistics have a hard time interpreting what others mean, so something that is a joke/harmless can come off as mean-spirited or harmful(which is why we have trouble understanding sarcasm and jokes a lot of the time!)

sirius often has trouble w/ his emotions, both regulating them + expressing them.

he gets angry very quickly, even going so far as to physically attack ashe multiple times throughout the game. emotional dysregulation is a common thing in autism(and many other disorders but. we're lookin @ autism here)

autistic people often have difficulty controlling our emotions and are prone to lashing out in anger, physically or verbally.

somewhat related to this, he needs to isolate himself to deal with his emotions. after attacking Ashe during the ghost stories scene, he retreats to his room and locks himself there to cope, only letting noel and claire in after time has passed.

autistic people have a tendency to self-isolate especially when dealing with overwhelming emotions/sensory issues/etc.
during his conclusion route, he expresses that he wants to seclude himself with his room and relax with no one around when dealing with a stressful moment.

as for expressing his emotions, he has difficulty with that, even in childhood. when he accidentally reveals to Claire her mom is dead and goes to apologize to her, he has difficulty expressing his guilt and needs dorothy to come in and help him apologize.

as an adult there are many instances of him having difficulty expressing how he feels(near the end of his route after he saves claire, for example)

he also states in his conclusion route that he doesn’t think kindness is a bad thing, but he can’t show it like noel and claire can, which i personally took to mean he doesn't know how to express kindness outwardly in the way that those two do.

additionally, he’s unaware that he comes off as angry/mean all the time. in wilardo’s route, ashe makes a comparison of sirius and possessed claire/invective, to which sirius shows genuine confusion and surprise that he’s seen like that:

to further back this up, in his conclusion route, claire draws him with slanted, angry-looking eyes. he takes offense at this because he truly doesn’t realize he comes off that way, and draws himself with a pleasant, happy look instead.

even claire points out in her thoughts that he isn’t aware of how he comes off. this is a common thing in autistic people, we often can have expressions that don’t match our current mood nor do we realize how our expressions come off to other people.

sirius also seems to have sensory issues, specifically auditory! he often gets upset with loud noises, and admits that he can’t focus as well as he could alone now that he has company:

for an allistic person, focusing wouldn’t be nearly as hard as it is for him with only 3 to 4 other people in the whole mansion, not even in the room with him. he’s got to be very sensitive to noise, and as such this impairs his ability to focus on his work.

he also makes several remarks as to how loud claire is when she's simply...Existing??? while she could just be an unnaturally loud person i personally think sirius is just Really sensitive to sound because nobody else in the mansion seems to have a problem with her noise levels
