March’s huge job loss numbers rival the worst months of the Great Recession, and these numbers do not include millions who filed unemployment claims toward the end of March. The unemployment rate rose from 3.5% in February to 4.4% in March, the highest unemployment we’ve seen in nearly three years. EPI estimates that nearly 20 million jobs could be lost by July, bringing unemployment rates into the mid-teens across the country.

The Hispanic unemployment rate skyrocketed from 4.4% to 6.0%, and the black unemployment rate jumped from 5.8% to 6.7%. The white unemployment rate rose from 3.1% to 4.0%.
