Shelter in place & surge capacity are NOT enough. While we absolutely need them to bend curve, COVID may come right back to hot spots if we dont:
1. Test more & isolate
2. Trace every contact & quarantine
3. Universal masking
4. Screen entry into safe zones

Unfortunately we are not doing social distancing well, let alone the others. https://twitter.com/josh_h/status/1245704916859002880?s=21">https://twitter.com/josh_h/st... https://twitter.com/josh_h/status/1245704916859002880">https://twitter.com/josh_h/st...
We don’t have enough stockpiles for to provide surge capacity. @NickMiroff @washingtonpost @EricTopol https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/coronavirus-protective-gear-stockpile-depleted/2020/04/01/44d6592a-741f-11ea-ae50-7148009252e3_story.html">https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/...
We are not testing enough. Not enough testing means we are not isolating people who need to be isolated. @davidalim https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.politico.com/amp/news/2020/03/31/testing-coronavirus-blindspots-157993">https://www.google.com/amp/s/www...
If we don’t know who the cases are we cannot trace and quarantine the contacts. China employed 5 epidemiologists to each case in Wuhan to trace and quarantine contacts. If contacts are not quarantined the cycle restarts. @DrSidMukherjee @PSampathkumarMD @nramind
We need universal masking. The @CDCgov has still not acted. It’s baffling. People must stay home. But when they have to go grocery shopping or work in an essential area, then must wear a mask. Regular/homemade enough. N95 reserve for frontline healthcare workers. @Carolynyjohnson
Finally we need to create safe zones and merge safe zones to bigger safe zones. When hot zones cool down, the vast majority of the remaining population is STILL SUSCEPTIBLE. If new cases come in the cycle restarts: we have another wave. @JInterlandi @CarolineYLChen @matthewherper
To beat this pandemic we need everything I listed in this thread. In addition, we need to overcome PPE & medication shortages with urgent action from the federal government. And warp speed development and approval of specific antivirals, meds, & vaccines @choo_ek @lauriemcginley2
