I don't follow Libya closely anymore. Honestly, following Iraq and Syria are depressing enough most of the time.

But when I read articles on the state by some of its supposed experts, I am shocked that the level of bias among academics is even stronger than Syria.
I understand the literature on conflicts is sometimes insular and there are cultures that promote at least partisanship-light. But, wow. Does Libya disappoint when you are trying to find neutral analysis on an issue.
There is relatively little promotion of the LNA among the mainstream academia following Libya. The GNA however have what can only be described as activists writing policy proposals for think tanks abroad.
As I finished writing this thread, I stumble upon this thread by one of these aforementioned experts with, no joke, this argument. It's like Sirte and the mass defections didn't happen. https://twitter.com/W_Lacher/status/1246001132448686080?s=20
Hafter has been collecting groups through defections over months. That happens when you have good relations with tribal intermediaries and happen to control the country's most valuable resources. Sirte wasn't even that long ago.
