Dear Artworld~

Invisible barriers are bigger than ever before during this crisis

Artists do not have money for your competitions & hollow exposure promises

You should wave contest fees

In fact we should have showcases and be inclusive & find other ways than onus on artists $
I have real problems with how much “prestige” and your success/failure as an artist hub he’s on meeting these arbitrary bench marks- marks who are often curated by out of touch & non-diverse staff.

We need better ways to help artists get “exposure” which we all know doesn’t pay
Think about how messed up and damaging this super old school way of thinking is “meet the right people, secure your career” who are the “right” people.

Our world is evolving and dealing w so much. So are our artists.

There is no proper right way. The old ways kept ppl out.
The kernel of truth in this “wisdom” is that yes having a network, a community is SUPER important- but this is something that we should be more welcoming everyone to and creating as many opportunities as we can.

Excluding ppl on superficial means is not acceptable.
Artists will always know their audience better than you.

So much of art history is arrogant people trying to keep artists down, in boxes, limited and of course keeping marginalized creators out but stealing their aesthetics.

Think hard about the art community you want to build
Art Students right now are graduating into a huge mess. Current artists are struggling. Future artists have parents seeing this ans discouraging them.

Art is something we all can do in some capacity.

We need it more than ever- art & innovation go hand in hand—
more barriers MUDT get torn down.

I propose that if you are in a position of power you fight harder than ever to give these opportunities, to make them, to look out for the community.

The art world is a wild fractured place.

But love always has a real place in it
