“Any Fijian would have done the same”~ Mau

The Fijian Hospitality- A letter to workers laid off from Tourism Industry

I have shared this story before and every time I say it I am reminded that our Bula Spirit, Smile and Veiomani goes a long way.

A thread*
2/ I met Mau at a Cocktail party with my friends while in Germany. Mau was volunteering for the event when our paths crossed.Later that evening the lights came back on and we were to return to our hotel, the piece of paper in which we drew the direction back home went missing.
3/ As we were heading towards the door it so happened Mau came back running to ask us if we were ok. Feeling embarrassed we told him what the problem was and that the only thing we knew was the name of our train station and our hotel.
4/Mau happened to live in the same area and offered to drop us at our doorstep.
When we reached our hotel, the boys were feeling hungry but there weren’t any shops open. Mau saved the day again as he went quickly to his place, cooked us Pasta and brought it back to the hotel.
5/ I also wanted to experience a German tradition so Mau took me to Cologne the heart of the Karneval festival. There we had a chance to dress up and join the parade. (As in the picture)
We got to know a bit about Mau. He came to Fiji once as a volunteer.
