Bottom line: the shield is pretty as much anti-employee as can be.

There are 16mn people in Poland on various types of employment contracts, incl. so-called "trash contracts" (ie. not full time and without standard safety net arrangements) and the self-employed.

Unlike in some EU countries, they& #39;re about to receive pretty much zero help from the government while the pandemic is already laying jobs and incomes to waste.

So, the "anti-crisis shield" allows the smallest companies and the self-employed to suspend their social security ZUS payments for 3 months. Fair enough.

The self-employed and workers on "trash contracts" can also receive PLN2,080 benefit. ONCE.

Now, what about estimated 12mn-13mn full-timers? Well, not only are they not going to see anything from the government but their work conditions could well deteriorate!

If their company goes into downtime they& #39;re guaranteed to receive minimum wage. If their company limits their work time, they& #39;re going to receive 80% of average pay. Moreover, companies are now able to impose 12-hr work days on employees, replacing the current 8 hr standard.

This thread& #39;s too long so cutting it short. Most employees, full time or otherwise, aren& #39;t getting any help. Millions will be laid off. Can they claim unemployment benefits? Sure thing - but read on what the benefits are...

7/9
Unemployment benefit can be PLN881 (€192) monthly at best. It lasts 3 months only after which it drops to PLN702 (€153) a month.

But if you haven& #39;t worked enough years before being laid off, you& #39;re getting even less. All they way down to - wait for it - PLN403 (€88).

That& #39;s the economic powerhouse we& #39;ve built here since 1989.

To my own surprise, this thread does not contain expletives.

Apologies for any inaccuracies, was writing v fast.
