Why Dreamcatcher isn't the top group people expected them to be.

Dreamcatcher debuted as Minx in 2014 but re-debuted as Dreamcatcher on January 13, 2017 under Happy Face Entertainment
The re-debut to Dreamcatcher made them switch from a light, innocent concept to a dark rock concept with horror-like MV's.

Thanks to this, they gained a lot of new fans. Especially internationally, they gained a huge fanbase.
The first album reportedly had 2,700 (source: Koreaboo). The second had 8,300 copies sold, the third 11,200 sales and then Escape the Era selling 25,436 copies (GAON). These are not first week sales tho!
They also made a tour through Europe and South America with some of the stops being sold out in little time. According to Hanteo, their album Alone in the City was sold 6,204 times in the first week. The End of Nightmare was sold 13,955 times on the fifth day (Hanteo).
Hanteo reported that Raid of Dream sold over 10,000 copies in the first week of its release.

Recently, Hanteo wrote an article on how the latest album, Dystopia: Tree of Language, sold over 25,000 albums within the first week. The group had a growth rate of 170% (!)
Dreamcatcher has a very stable fanbase, especially internationally.
The problem is that Dreamcatcher has a very niche sound, especially for Korea as we know that the Korean public seems to love the classic concepts (cute or girl crush)
Scream brought a lot of attention to the group and will hopefully give them more fans, especially in the Korean fanbase.

Are Dreamcatcher flops? No! They are a group that does very well and is praised, they just have more international fans.
The plus of their niche concept is that they don't need to fear that other groups will overshine them as they have a complete concept.
People need time to warm up to a new concept.
Don't be scared, they do very well!
