Every time I see some of the equate quarantine at home with losing a freedom it makes me cringe.

Your freedoms don't allow you to harm others.

You've no god-given right to harm other people.

The problem is infection is not as visible as mowing down somebody with your car. 1/
This makes people think that they're being treated unfairly because they see no harm in what they're doing. That's part of the problem the harm you doing may not show up for 14 days. Being part of a community means accepting certain things. Yes it means accepting risks too, 2/
but only reasonable ones. That's why we don't have pop-up drunk demo derby in Walmart parking lot. Where 20 guys pull their cars in, slam a 12 pack of beer and then try to demolition derby. It's not safe more so for the other people than the drivers of the cars.

That's 3/
we're at today. We're telling you you can't have that demolition derby because the senior citizen bus just got emptied out right next to where you're parked. Only in this case it's not just the old it's also people with compromised immune systems, and our medical professionals 4/
who are dropping dead trying to save lives. By demanding your freedom to go hang out at the sports bar and drink with your buddies you are putting all those people at greater risk because you're trying to have a good time. You're putting incredible stress on our medical people 5/
who due to the infection rate being so high, now I have to pick and choose who gets to live and who gets to die. Who gets a ventilator and who gets sent home when they know full well just how dangerous that can be.

So God forbid you be prevented from going and 6/
playing a game of pool, so that somebody else can go on living. Be a grown up not some petulant child kicking and screaming because you miss your friends, you miss your beer, you miss your girlfriend. You never know by setting a good example you might prevent some other 6/
person from thinking "if they can do it so can I" and running out and infecting someone you care about.

This isn't about giving up a freedom, it's about taking up for others, and making sure they get to live too.
