The impact *all this* is going to have on our finances & mental health is clearly huge. To find the biggest concerns, we surveyed nearly 600 people w/ mental health problems. Some key findings… (1/8)
While govt’s welcome moves to protect jobs reassured some, 57% of respondents were still worried about losing out, sometimes because of how their employer viewed their mental health (2/8)
Benefits should support those out of work. But 62% were worried about accessing that support. Common symptoms of mental health problems can make navigating the benefits system v.difficult. If govt action is going to deliver results, accessibility is a *big deal* (3/8)
Added problem now is that friends, family, charities who would’ve helped with paperwork etc now often can’t be in the same room - two-thirds said they relied on seeing friends and family face to face (4/8)
No easy answers on social distancing and DWP will be catching up with surge in demand for a while. But taking some quick steps could make accessing the support needed that much easier (5/8)
Reassurances from energy companies have been welcome but many still worried about higher bills from being home all the time. 42% struggling to keep up with debt repayments and 56% worried about creditors chasing them (6/8)
More action is needed from regulators and firms to help people who are struggling to access the support they need, as well as offering more support to debt advice agencies who will be needed more than ever (7/8)
