Italy, with a population of 60 million, about 13 000 people so far have died from the virus. They have a similar size population to SA which has 58 million people. So far SA has seen 7 deaths. These numbers would most likely be higher had SA not put strict measures in place.
With the tragic 13 000 deaths so far in Italy, 99.2% of the deceased had pre-existing health conditions. South Africa has the 8th highest number of TB cases in the world, that places our population at high risk due to the pre-existing condition of TB.
We have to be responsible and stay home so that not more people are infected. Here is a sobering thought: Sweden has 5.4 physicians per 1000 people. (Highest in the world). SA has only 0.9 per 1000. Let us assist our healthcare professionals by prevention. So stay home.
