DAY 7 ACTION ALERTToday we target Lord Chancellor & Secretary of State for Justice @RobertBuckland & the @MojGOVUK and demand they #freethemall4publichealth, because they have the power to save thousands trapped inside prisons, especially inhumane during #covid19
It is impossible to survive #covid19 without resources to maintain proper hygiene & the ability to social distance - neither which are options in prison. 3 deaths have occured in HMP Littlehey & HMP Manchester & the 65 covid cases are rising.
Every day of inaction will add to the state murder of those inside prisons and detention centres.
This thread goes out to @bluebaglife and others who are sharing stories from the inside. These voices must be amplified, as the carceral state once again tries to erase the particularly precarious struggles of those inside prisons
The world we fight for rejects all carceral systems of prison and detention, and is hinged upon a fierce solidarity with everyone inside prison. Your struggles, dreams and lives matter to us and our liberation remains tied up with yours.
We will continue to fight for those in Rikers Island in NYC, who are currently being offered $6/hour and PPE only if they help dig mass graves, while surviving with no hand sanitizer or soap, and 100s confined to a room https://theintercept.com/2020/03/31/rikers-island-coronavirus-mass-graves/
& for those in HMP Wandsworth, where the 40 with possible symptoms are being placed with the 14 confirmed cases, proof that @RobertBuckland does not value the lives of those inside prisons.
While being thankful that some releases are occurring, such as 200 in Ireland, & those who are pregnant across the UK, we can’t create a hierarchy where some lives are prioritized over others. Everyone should be able to protect themselves from #covid19 #FreeThemAll4PublicHealth
