1/ My husband (and almost his entire department) was unexpectedly #laidoff yesterday because of #COVIDー19 & was offered an absolutely terrible severance package. Since he can't be the only one #unemployed here are some things we're learning:
2/ What are you giving up for what amount of money? 3 weeks of pay is not enough in exchange for "fully and completely" offering assistance to your former employer on matters you have knowledge of forever without limitation #unemployment #COVIDー19
3/ Are you almost fully vested in your #401k or do you have #HealthInsurance or #lifeinsurance through your employer? Negotiate becoming fully vested & continuing insurance #unemployment #COVIDー19
4) What rights and causes of action (even those you don't yet know about!) are you forever waiving? Read the fine print & if you're not comfortable, ask to limit the language to include just waiving rights to sue for wrongful termination #unemployment #COVIDー19
5) Make clauses that apply to both parties mutual & put limits in the agreement using phrases such as "mutually agreeable time" or "mutually agreeable manner" #unemployment #COVIDー19
6) Talk with a lawyer to review the agreement & learn your rights. Do not sign any agreement without fully understanding it! This thread is not meant to be legal advice & you should absolutely seek your own counsel for your individual situation #unemployment #COVIDー19
