I just can't understand why garden centres/nurseries etc are closed during this. There is going to be a global food shortage when this pandemic is over and it will make the pandemic pale in comparison.
People starting out now growing their own will give up once the restrictions/
lifted. Growing your own is hard no matter how many books you read. It's all dependant on your soil, aspect, temperature, pests etc. What will grow one year, won't the next. You've got to be patient and experiment. The vast majority of people give up and go to the supermarket/
But what happens when the supermarket no longer has supply? Everyone who is growing now, keep at it. Rome wasn't built in a day. You'll have abject failure but you'll have some success and there is nothing to compare to the taste of homegrown.
The same goes for making sourdough/
It took me years to get it and two courses. It's much more than just following a recipe. It requires instinct, understanding and patience.
A bit like gardening.

So don't give up. Keep trying and if you fail, try again.

And for the love of God please reopen garden shops?
